Dr. Jay Mabrey performs total hip replacements in Dallas, Texas. This procedure is necessary for patients who suffer from arthritis, hip pain, stiffness or limited hip movement. In most cases, a total hip replacement will help restore alignment and functionality of the hip. A total hip replacement almost always reduces joint pain. During the procedure, Dr. Mabrey will replace the diseased hip joint with an artificial joint (called a prosthesis).

There are many benefits associated with a total hip replacement. If Dr. Mabrey determines that you are a candidate for the surgery, below are some of the benefits associated with the procedure.

Benefits of Hip Replacement

Total hip replacement surgery almost always:

  • Stops or greatly reduces hip pain. Even the pain from surgery should go away within weeks.
  • Increases leg strength. Without hip pain, you’ll be able to use your legs more. This will build up your muscles.
  • Improves quality of life by allowing you to do daily tasks and low-impact activities in greater comfort.
  • Provides years of easier movement. Most total hip replacements last for many years.

As with any surgery, a total hip replacement involves certain risks. Some of these risks may include:

  • Reaction to the anesthesia
  • Blood clots
  • Infection
  • Dislocation of the joint or loosening of the prosthesis
  • Damage to nearby blood vessels, bones, or nerves
  • Thigh pain

A total hip replacement is a major surgery. Dr. Mabrey will need to see each patient for post-op visits. During these visits, he will be able to verify that the hip is healing properly and remove stitches or staples after at least two weeks.
